A downloadable really cool game for Windows and macOS

Here's Demo 2 of Wink!

You play as an eye guy who lives in a strange world filled with weird animals, plants and other things.

You can explore to find hidden and collectible items while trying to find a way to turn off the oil spill that has prevented you and your friends from traveling East.

Wink is a 2D platformer with lots of metroidvania and RPG elements.

I was inspired by my favorite games, like Mario 3, Zelda: Link's Awakening, and Yoshi's Island

The graphics are somewhere between an 8-bit and 16-bit style This is an early release, so PLEASE contact me with any issues. Wink should run at a smooth 60fps at all times. As far as I know, there are no fatal errors.

Install instructions

Wink is stored in a ZIP file. Make sure you download the right file for your platform

MAC USERS: On newer Macs, you'll have to:

Otherwise the system will block you since it's not "signed" by the App store

Hey, there! Sorry, this took a while. You asked me to test the game on twitter a while back and I finally got around to playing a little.

First off: I really like this game's art design and aesthetic. It's colourfull and inventive, weird and unique and it catches your eye immediately.

I also like how the weapons change randomly (?). It took some getting used to and surprised me at first but it's really fun and challenges you to adapt.

I found a couple of things, though: Sometimes, when I start up the first level I can't advance past the bedroom's second floor. There's no path up. Wink just jumps up, is off screen for some time and then comes back down. If I want to exit to the first floor the same thing happens, except that they don't come back and I'm just left with the view of the room.

Also: Is double jumping possible? If yes, it doesn't work sometimes in that I can only jump once. If no, I sometimes get to jump several times while still in the air. This happens a lot. It seems to be a quite common problem as well and has probably something to do with collision physics and bounding boxes.

There's a couple of usability things as well: Maybe don't instantly have the game shut down when pressing escape. Some games open their menue on escape, so that might lead to confusion. Others close the game on escape as well but show a message first or slowly fade out. That way people don't close the game instantly or by mistake, They know whats happening and hitting escape by mistake isn't totally fatal ;)

I also feel like a for shooting and x for jumping are a bit hard to get used to, since space is usually associated  with jumping and a usually makes player characters move left.

So that's just a couple of things I found ^^ I'll let you know about more, as soon es I get around to playing a lot more.

Thank you so much for asking me! So far I really like the game.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I really appreciate the positive comments and the constructive criticism

I agree with a lot of what you said and I’m going to include some things (like the escape issue) in my next update and I’ll work on including other things (like the controls) as I continue to work on it

Sounds like there were some camera bugs? I think I’ve fixed that because I did a lot of work on the camera

I’m confused about the double jumping. You’re not supposed to be able to double jump. Would you be able to share a gif or video of it? Otherwise if you could explain when and where you’ve been able to do that it’s really help

I know there’s a weird bug where you can jump in the air when a room starts before you hit the ground but I don’t know about any other places where you can and I need to fix it :)

Thanks again! This is really helpful

Oh sure no problem ^^

Regarding the double jump: I think it happens when you either enter a level or you've just died and restart but I've definetly hit the ground before. I'll try and remember to make a video of it the next time it happens, since I don't really know how to trigger it on purpose. But I'll keep an eye out

Thank you! That’ll really help me out

This aesthetic is perfect!

Thanks a bunch! That means a lot
